Description of Major

*Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. This program is NOT available via Online/Distance Learning.*

The Management Information Systems (MIS) major provides students with both business and technical knowledge to be effective in an ever-changing economic environment, allowing them to move into positions in which they manage the design and development of systems-related solutions for companies to solve business problems and help companies be more competitive. MIS is about the relationships between business, people, and technology. It focuses on using technology to analyze, design, and implement information systems to improve business. Career paths vary from business-focused and technical to training and support of information system users. Typical MIS positions in a variety of industries include systems analyst, systems developer, IT consultant, database developer, software developer, application developer, web developer, information security manager, programmer, IT manager, or database manager.
